Installing Velocity Web Service Client from Velocity

To install a Velocity Web Services Client and IIS Client, perform the steps below:

  1. Make sure you are logged onto Windows as an Administrator

  2. Run the Velocity_Installer_3.8.6(build-3.8.6.xxx).exe file:

    • If you have a Velocity 3.8.6 installation DVD, insert it into your DVD drive, and the auto-start feature should automatically start the Velocity Installer

    • If you downloaded the file to install Velocity 3.8.6, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder containing the file and double-click on Velocity_Installer_3.8.6(build-3.8.6.xxx).exe

  3. After the Velocity Installer’s Welcome (or splash) screen appears, click Next

  4. Select the “I agree to the terms in the End-User License Agreement” option on the resulting End-User License Agreement page, and click Next

  5. In the Install Options screen, select the Server option, accept the currently displayed SQL Server or select a different one, and click Next

    Note: If the SQL Server Browser service is not running, a dialog box will appear, prompting you to start the service before continuing.

  6. Select the Install Velocity Web Services option at the resulting Web Services Options screen, then click Next

  7. When the EULA Screen appears, read the License Agreement, scroll down to the bottom, and click Accept

  8. In the Application Install Options screen, you can either choose the Install Velocity Web Service and IIS Client Website (Recommended) or Install Velocity Web Service only (Integration Support) radio button

  9. Enter the Account and Password, then click Next
    For example, to specify a Domain Windows account name of "DOMAIN_NAME\VelocityServices" or a Local Windows account ".\VelocityServices" and the Password for the account.
    Note: The default service account that is used by the underlying VWSC service is “VelocityServices”

    The Velocity Web Services Client Installer will check the system for prerequisites

  10. The Velocity Web Services Client Installer displays the Service and Website Settings screen

  11. Select the Communication options (HTTP or HTTPS):

    • For HTTP (Deprecated) and HTTPS (Recommended) options allow you to enable either unsecured or secured communication. For security and privacy reasons, it is highly recommended that you use HTTPS to ensure that your website data remains safe and protected during transmission over the Internet.

      Warning!! The Velocity 3.8.6 release has already deprecated HTTP, and from Velocity v3.9, HTTP communication will be removed from the installer.

      • For HTTP (Deprecated) communication, the Service Configuration port 2026 is the default port number and communication channel. You can change this port number if necessary.

    • In the IIS Configuration option:

      1. Use Forms Authentication (Recommended) allows users to authenticate by providing their username and password credentials through a web form

      2. Use Windows Authentication allows users to authenticate automatically based on their Windows credentials without entering a username and password separately

    • Click Next.

  12. Proceed to Step -13 for the installation to be completed

    • For HTTPS (Recommended) communication, the SSL certificate option is enabled. This option allows you to select an existing SSL certificate configured for server authentication from your Personal or Web Hosting certificate store.

    • The default pre-selected SSL certificate for a new installation will be the "Identiv Velocity Web Services" self-signed certificate

      • When doing an update, the SSL certificate previously configured for Velocity Web will be pre-selected, click Next

      • The default SSL certificate is “Identiv Velocity Web Services” which you can choose, click Next

  13. An Application Installation screen displays progress information while the Velocity Web Services Client is installed

  14. After a successful Velocity Web Services Client installation, the Installation Complete screen appears

  15. After the Velocity Web Services Client installation has finished, the installer wizard closes, and the primary Velocity installation resums. Progress information is displayed on the Application Installation page.

  16. When the Complete Installation screen is displayed, select the desired Closing Options and click the Close button

Updating Velocity Web Services Client

  1. If you are updating an existing installation of the Velocity Web Services Client (instead of performing a new installation) by selecting the communication mode as HTTP (Deprecated), then when the following dialog appears, click Next

Note that HTTP communication has been deprecated as of the VWSC 3.8.6 release and will no longer be supported from v3.9 onwards. Please switch to HTTPS for more secure communication.

  1. An Application Installation screen displays progress information while the Velocity Web Services Client is installed as shown, click Next

  1. The Installaton Complete screen appears

  1. Clicking the Close button will automatically launch the VWSC application in the default Microsoft Edge browser

Ensuring that the Velocity Web Service is Running

To check the status of the Velocity Web Service, you must have the following Velocity Role Permission: Application Permissions > Service Control Manager > Service Control Manager - Use

After you install the Web Services Client, you should use Velocity's Service Control Manager to verify that the Velocity Web Service is running.

  1. Right-click on the Velocity Service Control Manager icon in the Windows taskbar and look at the commands on the pop-up menu:

    • If you see Start Velocity Web Service, means the service is NOT started, click on it to start it

    • If you see Stop Velocity Web Service, that means the service is already running, and you should click outside the pop-up menu to close it
