Configuring Vlinx Serial to Ethernet Adapter

Installing Vlinx Software
Open the location of the Vlinx software after inserting the cd
Double-click VlinxS64.exe to run the VLinx installer.
Follow the prompts on-screen to install the VLinx Serial Server Manager Software software.
When the software is installed, double-click the Vlinx Serial Server Manager desktop icon.
To find the Vlinx device click Connect.
The VLinx will look for locally connected devices. If the Vlinx is not found, contact CEMEX IT to verify your network information and troubleshoot any connection issues.
Upgrading Vlinx Firmware
After finding the Vlinx via the Serial Service Manager, the following window should be displayed. Select the Vlinx device you wish to configure.
Press the “Upgrade“ button, found in the top tool bar. You should be presented with the window below. Please note you do not need to log in to perform this action.
Click the “Browse” button to select the folder where the firmware update files are located. The firmware update files are included in the Cemex plug-in package.
From the drop down box titled “from firmware version to the firmware contained in:”, select the file tiltled “VESR_v1.5..sfb” then press the “Upgrade” button. During the upgrade, packets being sent will be displayed in the “Progress” section of the window.
During the upgrade, packets being sent will be displayed in the “Progress” section of the window. Once complete, a finished message should be displayed. Press the “Close” button once the upgrade is complete to return to the login screen.
Do not turn off or unplug the Vlinx device during the upgrade process. Doing so may serverly damage the device and lead to device failure.
Editing Vlinx Network Options
Log into the device using the correct password and select Network options for the desired Vlinx port. Port 1 will be used in the following examples.
Set the network protocol to TCP.
Select the to initiate connections (client) option.
Type the IP address of the 3VR VIP Appliance in the IP address box.
Click Advanced.
Select the checkbox next to the I want to control when data packets are sent over the network option.
Select the Intercharacter Timeout option and set the timer to 100 milliseconds.
Click the Save button at the bottom of the Port Network Advanced options.
Click Save on the resulting confirmation page. After, you will be directed to a page announcing the device reboot.
For X-Series and VMS appliances, ensure the TCP port number assigned in the Vlinx device is added as an exception to the Windows™ firewall settings. Consult your Windows™ documentation for instructions.
Installation and Configuring Cemex Plug-In
Launch 3VR System Manager.
In the Configure panel, click the plus sign beside the appliance name.
Right-click the Plug-ins folder and select Add Plug-in.
In the resulting Confirm dialog box, click Install to proceed.
Navigate to the folder containing the plug-in file (Plugins.Cemex-Release-1.0.0.xx-7.x.x.3pg) and click to highlight the file.
Click OK. The plug-in will now begin installing.
When the plug-in is installed, it will appear below Plug-ins in System Manager.
Configuring General Settings
Select the Cemex plug-in.
Click Edit Settings.
In the Edit Global Settings dialog, type the name of the company in the Company Name box.
Type the address where this 3VR appliance is located in the Plant Address boxes.
The Transaction Data Logging setting toggles whether transaction data is stored or not. This should be left at the default value Off unless you are instructed to enable it by 3VR Technical Support or Professional Services.
The Image Quality Value setting controls the quality of the images associated with each event. The default value Medium will generally be sufficient.
When you are finished, click OK to save your changes.
